The Fox Hopyard Golf Club Instructional Program is directed by 1996 Connecticut Section Teacher of the Year, Ronald D. Beck. In 23 years as a PGA Professional Ron has given over 8,000 private lessons, over 500 clinics and taught in over 150 golf schools. Ron is very active in PGA Education, currently serving on the national Golf Professional Training Program Faculty. In 1993 Ron received the Horton Smith Award for contributions to golf education. Ron is the originator and coordinator of the bi-annual Northeast Teaching and Coaching Summit in which he has brought in most of the top instructors in the country. In 2007 Golf Digest Ron was rated as the fourth best teacher in Connecticut and Golf Magazine has recognized Ron as one of the Top Instructors in New England. A self-proclaimed student of the game Ron has taught with and learned from many of the top instructors in America. Teaching is his passion. Ron’s dedication and enthusiasm for teaching are shared by his talented teaching assistants, Tom Pannier and Maki Kobayashi.
Assistant Golf Professional
Tom started his career in golf as an Assistant Golf Professional at the Donald Ross designed Charles River Country Club in Newton Centre, MA where his tenure spanned 6 years. While at Charles River, Tom worked seasonally at the Lost Tree Club in North Palm Beach for 3 winters. His connection with Jack Nicklaus at Lost Tree lead to a First Assistant Position at The Bear’s Club in Jupiter, Florida where he helped open the world-class club in 2000 and stayed on board for 6 years. During his time at The Bear’s Club Tom returned to New England for a couple of summers at Wollaston Golf Club in Milton, MA. Tom’s next stop was another Donald Ross gem in Jacksonville, FL – Timuquana Country Club.
Among other accomplishments at Timuquana, Tom was selected the 2009 Teacher of the Year for the North Chapter of the North Florida Section of the PGA. Last year Tom was the Head Golf Professional at the Arnold Palmer designed Cullasaja Club in Highlands, NC.
